The Dhaulagiri Panorama Poon Hill Trek is a perfect combination of natural beauty, culture, and adventure. Over 10 days, trekkers journey through some of the most picturesque regions in Nepal, experiencing the awe-inspiring Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges. This trek is designed to give travelers Himalayan mountain views, cultural experiences, and moderate trekking challenges without the risks of high-altitude expeditions.

During the trek, you will walk through quaint Gurung and Magar villages, meet friendly locals, and witness ancient traditions and festivals. The trek’s crown jewel is Poon Hill, where you can see panoramic views of multiple Himalayan giants at sunrise. From verdant rhododendron forests to terraced farmlands, every step offers stunning scenery and unique photo opportunities. It is suitable for those seeking a rewarding yet accessible Himalayan adventure, combining nature, culture, and relaxation.

Itinerary

Arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu. You will be welcomed by your guide and briefed on the trek. Depending on arrival time, explore Thamel, the cultural heart of Kathmandu, famous for local handicrafts, trekking gear, and cafes. Overnight stay in a comfortable 3-star hotel.

After breakfast, drive to Pokhara, a lakeside city known for stunning mountain views and a relaxing atmosphere. En route, enjoy rivers, lush valleys, and traditional villages. Afternoon free to explore Phewa Lake, visit Davis Falls, or stroll around the lakeside markets. Overnight in Pokhara.

Drive to Nayapul, the official start of the trek. Begin trekking through riverside trails, terraced farms, and small settlements, reaching Tikhedhunga. The trail passes through lush green forests with rhododendron and oak trees. Overnight in a tea house, dinner included.

Climb steadily through dense forests of rhododendron and bamboo, passing traditional villages. Reach Ghorepani, a picturesque village and popular base for the Poon Hill sunrise trek. Overnight in a tea house with traditional Nepali meals.

Wake early for the unforgettable sunrise at Poon Hill, one of the most famous viewpoints in Nepal. From here, enjoy panoramic views of Dhaulagiri (8,167m), Annapurna South, Machapuchare, and hundreds of peaks. After sunrise, descend to Ghorepani for breakfast and continue trekking through forests and villages to Tadapani, a village surrounded by rhododendron forests. Overnight in a tea house.

Trek downhill to Ghandruk, a traditional Gurung village. Explore the village, interact with locals, and visit traditional stone houses and narrow alleys. Enjoy uninterrupted mountain views from various viewpoints along the trail. Overnight in a tea house with local dinner.

Ghandruk to Nayapul & Drive to Pokhara

Drive back to Kathmandu, enjoying panoramic views of mountains and valleys along the way. Evening free to explore local markets or relax. Overnight in Kathmandu.

Full-day sightseeing tour of Kathmandu’s cultural heritage. Visit Pashupatinath Temple, Boudhanath Stupa, Swayambhunath Stupa, and Durbar Square. Learn about Nepalese traditions, art, and history. Overnight in Kathmandu.

  1. Best Season to Trek
  • Spring (March–May): This is one of the best times for this trek. The rhododendron forests are in full bloom, valleys are lush and green, and the weather is warm with clear skies.
  • Autumn (September–November): Also ideal due to stable weather, minimal rainfall, and crystal-clear mountain views.
  • Winter (December–February): Cold, especially at higher altitudes. Snowfall can make trails slippery. Not recommended for first-time trekkers.
  • Monsoon (June–August): Heavy rain, landslides, slippery trails, and obstructed mountain views. Not advisable.
  1. Trekking Difficulty & Fitness
  • Difficulty: Moderate. Suitable for beginners with basic fitness. Daily walks are usually 4–6 hours, with some gradual uphill climbs.
  • Fitness Tip: Start with daily walks or light hikes before the trek. Cardio exercises like jogging, stair climbing, or cycling help prepare your body.
  • Altitude: The highest point is Poon Hill (3,210m). Altitude sickness risk is low, but stay hydrated and climb gradually.

  • Tea Houses: Simple, comfortable, and family-run. Rooms usually have twin or triple beds with shared bathrooms.
