Overview
One of the most popular hiking routes in Nepal is to Mt. Annapurna Base Camp. This trail combines culture, nature, and beautiful Himalayan scenery. This 8-day trip is shorter than long treks that last weeks. It lets you see the most of the Annapurna area without rushing, which makes it a great choice for people who don’t have much time.
The trek begins in Pokhara, Nepal’s beautiful lake city, before heading towards the lush foothills of the Annapurna Himalayas. Along the way, you’ll pass through peaceful Gurung villages, walk inside rhododendron forests, and cross charming suspension bridges. Every day, the mountains feel closer and bigger until you finally stand at Annapurna Base Camp (4,130 m) — a breathtaking bowl-shaped sanctuary surrounded by towering peaks like Annapurna I (8,091 m), Machapuchare, Annapurna South, and Hiunchuli.
Unlike Everest Base Camp, which is higher and takes longer, this trek is considered more moderate and achievable for anyone with good fitness and determination. The altitude is manageable, the trails are well-established, and the rewards are simply unforgettable.
If you’re dreaming of standing right in the middle of giant Himalayan peaks and capturing postcard-perfect views, this Mt. Annapurna Base Camp Trekking – 8 Days is the adventure you’ve been looking for.
Itinerary
Your trip starts with a beautiful drive from Pokhara to Nayapul, which is the starting point for your trip to the Annapurna area. You'll start your hike here and go through terraced fields, along rivers, and through small villages. Eventually, you'll reach Ghandruk, a beautiful Gurung town known for its culture and views of Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, and Machapuchare. Spend the night in a cozy teahouse and have dinner there.
When you leave Ghandruk, the road takes you through farmland and lush forests. Along the way, you can see snow-capped peaks. You will go down to the Kimrong River and then back up to Chhomrong, which is the last permanent village on the way to Annapurna Base Camp. There is a beautiful view of Machapuchare and Annapurna South from this spot. Dinner and a night's stay in a teahouse.
Today, you’ll descend stone steps to cross the Chhomrong Khola and then climb through forests filled with bamboo, rhododendrons, and oak trees. The fresh greenery and sounds of nature make this part of the trek very peaceful. By evening, you’ll reach Bamboo, a quiet village surrounded by forest. Dinner and overnight in a teahouse.
The trail continues upward through forests and small waterfalls, with short breaks at Dovan and Himalaya along the way. As you climb higher, the trees become thinner and the air fresher. By the time you reach Deurali, the landscape feels more alpine, with snow-dusted cliffs and open valleys. Dinner and overnight at a teahouse.
This is one of the most exciting days of the trek! You’ll first walk to Machapuchare Base Camp, a spectacular spot with sweeping views of Fishtail Peak. From here, the trail climbs gradually into the wide Annapurna Sanctuary. Soon, you’ll stand at Annapurna Base Camp (4,130 m), surrounded by a ring of majestic mountains. Watching the sunset here is a magical moment you’ll never forget. Overnight at a teahouse with dinner.
After waking up early to watch the sunrise over Annapurna I, you’ll begin descending back down the trail. The trek feels easier as you retrace your steps through Machapuchare Base Camp and descend into greener landscapes, eventually reaching Bamboo for the night. Dinner and overnight at a teahouse.
From Bamboo, you’ll trek back to Chhomrong and then descend steeply to Jhinu Danda. This village is famous for its natural hot springs, where you can soak your tired muscles in warm water beside the river. It’s the perfect way to relax after days of trekking. Dinner and overnight at a teahouse.
On your final day, you’ll trek downhill through forests and terraced farmlands until you reach Nayapul. From here, a private vehicle will take you back to Pokhara, where you can celebrate your successful Annapurna Base Camp adventure with a lakeside evening.
