Overview

Kaligandaki River Rafting is one of Nepal’s most popular white-water adventures. The river gets its name from the goddess Kali, and locals consider it sacred. Flowing from the Tibetan plateau through Mustang and into the plains, the Kaligandaki is not just a river but a lifeline filled with history, culture, and stunning scenery.

For rafters, this river offers the perfect blend of adventure and beauty. The rapids are mostly Grade III and IV, which means they are bouncy, splashy, and fun without being too extreme. Along the way, you’ll paddle through deep canyons, glide past golden sandy beaches, and even spot waterfalls dropping straight into the river. The views of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri make it even more special.

This rafting trip can be done in 1 day (for those short on time) or stretched into 2 days with overnight camping. The camping version is highly suggested because you can enjoy a night under the stars by the river, a campfire, and the soothing sounds of the water. Kaligandaki is the best place to go rafting, whether you’re a beginner looking for your first time or an experienced explorer looking for something beautiful.

Itinerary

From Pokhara, you'll take a beautiful three- to four-hour drive to Maldhunga, where your trip starts. Your rafting guide will go over safety rules with you before you get on the water and start paddling downhill. For the first few rapids, you'll have to work together and get a rush of energy. Along the way, you'll be able to see traditional towns, suspension bridges, and green hills.

If you’re doing a 1-day trip, you’ll finish rafting in the afternoon and return to Pokhara by drive.

If you’re on the 2-day trip, you’ll stop at a sandy riverside beach, set up camp, and enjoy a delicious dinner cooked by the rafting crew. Spend the evening around a campfire, sharing stories under the stars before falling asleep to the sound of the river.
