Useful Information

Best Season to Visit:

Visit during the best season: October to March is the best time to see Chitwan National Park. The weather is cooler and nicer, and animals are more likely to be seen during the day because they are out in the open. It’s hotter from April to June, but there is lots of grass. From July to September, the monsoon season, it rains a lot, so trips may not be possible.

Getting There:

You can take a tourist bus from Kathmandu or Pokhara to get to Chitwan. The trip takes about 5–6 hours. Private cars and jeeps are faster and more comfortable. From Kathmandu, it only takes 25 minutes to fly to Bharatpur Airport, and then it’s only a short drive to the park.

Wildlife Safety & Etiquette:

Safety and manners around wildlife: Always do what your guide tells you to do. Do not make loud noises, move quickly, or try to get too close to animals. Animals must not be fed or touched in any way. This is where wild animals live in the wild, so please give them room. It will keep you and them safe.

What to Bring:

  • Clothing that is light, airy, and earthy colours will help you fit in with your surroundings.
  • A hat or cap and sunglasses to protect your eyes from the sun
  • Sandals or walking shoes that are easy to wear
  • Sunscreen and insect repellant
  • A camera or glasses to take pictures of wildlife
  • A small pack to carry your water bottle and snacks on tours

Accommodation Facilities:

There are a variety of lodges and resorts in the area of Chitwan National Park, ranging from cheap to high-end. A lot of lodges have clean bathrooms, comfortable beds, and a balcony or yard where you can relax. Some of the more expensive choices have air conditioning, swimming pools, and private balconies with views of the jungle.

Changes for Safari:

  • If you’re lucky, you might even see a tiger or rhinoceros on a Jeep Safari, which goes through a bigger area of the park.
  • Elephant safaris give you a unique view from above and let you get close to animals in places that jeeps can’t.
  • Walking safaris are great for people who like to watch birds and take things more slowly while being in the bush.

Power and connectivity:

Cell phone networks may not be strong deeper in the park, but they work in most lodge places. In tourist places, electricity is usually on all the time, but power outages do happen, so it’s a good idea to bring a power bank.

Culture of the Area:

The Tharu people are from the Chitwan area. You can see their traditional mud-plastered homes, wear bright clothes, and watch a Tharu dance show. A great way to meet people in a new place is to learn a few local phrases, like “Namaste.”

Health and Insurance:

The park is safe, but you should still get travel insurance that covers adventure sports. Tell your guide ahead of time if you have any allergies or health problems.
